Our Story

Welcome to Prakruti Creations Paper Artistry, the new address for unique, handmade eco-friendly decorations for your special occasions.

Prakruti translates as nature, in the ancient language of Sanskrit. It means something that is in its original form as found in the natural environment. As most decorations are made of paper and coloured card, they are versatile.

Ramya Vandana, our founder is a Chemical Engineer with a Masters degree in Environmental Management. She has always been inclined towards art and crafts. In 2016, when Ramya Vandana wanted to buy party decorations to celebrate her daughter's first birthday, she noticed that all the decorations readily available at the stores were mostly made of single-use foil or plastic. All these go to landfills after a single use, adding to the already existing plastic pollution.

Handmade eco-friendly paper flowers and decorations caught her eye. She created décor for her daughter's next birthday using upcycled cards. Her family and friends appreciated her work. She started with birthday decorations and backdrops for friends and family and that was how Prakruti Creations was born.

Prakruti is not simply an aesthetic, but the mantra Ramya Vandana lives by, in every aspect of her life.

 Mango Leaf Garlands (Torans)

For Hindu festivals, the common decorations found anywhere are using mango leaves and marigold flower garlands. Ramya Vandana missed fresh garlands and also didn't want to buy something that was not local (so as to avoid unnecessary air miles) so she made reusable leaf and floral garlands called Torans herself. These beautiful torans were designed so as to increase their durability, smooth shipping, and easy to display in customers' homes.

Starting with mango leaf torans and marigold garlands, she diversified into small paper flowers and bouquets.

Personalised cake toppers, theme/special occasion banners, theme party cut-outs, invitations, personalised stamps, 3D cut-outs and many more were added into the accessories range.

2020 was a year of major milestones in our journey.

February 2020 - Ramya Vandana got a chance to setup a floral backdrop on MATV UK for a women empowerment show named Nari Tu Naryani. This show promotes women entrepreneurs and shares their journeys with the viewers.

March 2020 - Prakruti Creations exhibited its first stall at Kinder Living's Sustainability Home Show at Horsham. It was a special milestone and we learnt a lot about visitors' views and received feedback.

Prakruti Creations included in SmallBiz100

In August 2020, Prakruti Creations was selected as one of UK's 100 most inspiring small businesses, known as SmallBiz100, by Small Business Saturday UK. Prakruti Creations was highlighted on SmallBizSatUK's social media platforms on November 30, 2020. A proud moment for Ramya Vandana and a very bright future for the brand.

iGlobal News published an article about Vandana and Prakruti Creations about an Eco-friendly touch with paper artistry for Diwali.

December 2020 - Ramya Vandana got the opportunity to be on 'The Business Show with Chantal' on Ridge Radio UK to have a chat about the plans for the business during and after the pandemic.

Ramya Vandana recently started virtual classes for both children to help expand their minds and increase 3D visualization and design skills in an fun way. Adults flower-making classes are great way of (virtual) social interaction and learning a new skill/hobby for all those involved.
